Great Western Electrification Project

The Greater West trackside earthing and bonding project

The Great Western Electrification project is the largest electrification project in the UK for a generation. Andromeda were honoured to be involved in producing the design for bonding and immunisation of all the line side assets within the overhead line contact zone between Bristol and Cardiff (approximately 33 miles).

We became involved late in the project, after a previous contractor was unable to deliver a suitable solution and, despite the challenging timescales, successfully delivered the scheme within budget.

Aspects of the project delivered by Andromeda included…

  • Application of interoperability standards (TSIs), railway group standards and Network Rail company standards
  • Design and calculation for the bonding of all signalling power assets, point heating assets and all metallic line side fencing, barriers and station furniture
  • Providing design and construction contractors responsible engineer (CRE)
  • Assurance of installation and compliance to design
  • Entry into service and hand back of health and safety files, test certificates and all record drawings
