Andromeda commissioned to produce a new, updated Standard for Network Rail

This update will be carried out to Network Rail Standard, Electrical Safety Measures for Working on the Operational Railway with Overhead Electrification (NR/L3/ELP/25000).

The update to the Network Rail standard, Electrical Safety Measures for Working on the Operational Railway with Overhead Electrification (NR/L3/ELP/25000) will address lessons from the trials conducted, outstanding issues from issue 1 work and output from stakeholder engagement activities.

Additional modules will also be added to include such things as requirements during construction and commissioning. This is a key element of Network Rail’s Electrical Safety Delivery programme, with the aim of developing a Single Approach to Isolations (SAI) for working on the operational railway.

The SAI is a single, consistent end-to-end process for working on the operational railways with respect to traction power systems (overhead line equipment, conductor rail equipment and distribution equipment) that improves electrical safety while simultaneously increasing compliance with the requirements set out in the Electricity at Work Regulations.

Andromeda Managing Director Barry Lumley said: ‘‘Having been heavily involved in developing Issue 1 of this standard for trial purposes, which was released last year we are delighted to have been commissioned to lead the work to update this important new standard.’’
